When flying from the US to Brazil, you’ll most likely need to connect through one of the several gateway cities in the US. These include ORD (Chicago), MIA (Miami), IAH (Houston), LAX (Los Angeles), ATL (Atlanta), IAD (DC), JFK (New York), MCO (Orlando), and DFW (Dallas). Hubs in nearby countries which are also options include YYZ (Toronto) and MEX (Mexico). So, unless you live nearby one of the gateway cities listed above, you’ll probably first need a connecting flight to that hub airport.
From that hub you would then take a direct flight to Brazil. The main international arrival airports in Brazil are Sao Paulo (GRU) and Rio (RIO). The code SAO can also be used when searching for flights to Sao Paulo. Those two airports get a lot of flights in from the USA so there are generally a lot of options both in regards to which airline, and departure and arrival times to Brazil.
Unfortunately there are not many flights from the USA to Brasilia (BSB) so there won’t be much choice on flights if you need to fly there. When I flew to Brasilia I ended up connecting in Rio (connecting in Sao Paulo is also an option), and there are frequent and cheap flights from both of those cities to Brasilia.
Many flights to Brazil will be on 767 aircraft. Unlike when flying to Asia, there just aren’t a lot of 747s used on flights to Brazil, and not many 777s either. One of the things I like about the 767 is the 2-3-2 seating configuration in economy. One tip on these: often the middle seat in the 3 section is left unoccupied. So it can sometimes be a good idea to reserve an isle seat in the 3 section in hopes no one will be sitting next to you.
Regarding finding cheap flights to Brazil, in my various trips to the country I haven’t seen a lot of great deals on flights. Particularly if you’re trying to fly when most everyone else is, e.g. to arrive Sunday or Monday to start a week of business meetings in Sao Paulo. Just finding available seats can be a challenge.
