Flights from USA to Australia are quite long. From the US, you’ll most likely be connecting through the west coast. I’m not aware of flights direct from the US east coast, presumably because the distance is just too far and exceeds the range of most commercial aircraft. Most flights will go through LAX (Los Angeles) or SFO (San Francisco). Here are the approximate flight times to Sydney, where many passengers arrive:
Honolulu HI (HNL) to Sydney Australia (SYD) – 10 hrs 15 min
Los Angeles CA (LAX) to Sydney Australia (SYD) – 14 hrs 28 min
San Francisco CA (SFO) to Sydney Australia (SYD) – 14 hrs 26 min
It is possible to fly to a few other cities in Australia using international carriers out of LAX. They fly from:
Los Angeles CA (LAX) to Brisbane Australia (BNE)
Los Angeles CA (LAX) to Melbourne Australia (MEL)
There are also flights from Guam, though few from the continental US connect through there.
Guam TT (GUM) to Cairns Australia (CNS) – 4 hrs 39 min
Planes burn a lot of fuel going to Australia, and there aren’t that many flights, so there don’t appear to be a large number of cheap Flights from USA to Australia. You can get some when it’s the off season in Australia. You might check the Qantas website often, or perhaps signing up for their frequent flier program to get updates on specials they may run from time to time.
When I flew to Australia I went through LAX on Qantas. It was for work, so it was in business class, and it was a great experience. Sure, the 14 hour flight was long, but if it’s a redeye flight, which is what I always try to take for long international flights, then the time will go by fast as one’s asleep for much of the time.
Hope this page helped you gain information about flights from USA to Australia. Australia is a very fun and approachable country for visitors from America. It’s not all that different, the language is still English, but yet it’s still interesting and enjoyable. A great place to see.
